Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2, 2026 — Draft
BG Live is a companion app for board game nights. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it, in plain English.
What we collect
- Account information. Your email address and the display name you choose.
- Game session data. The games you play, when you play them, who was at the table (as display names or guest names entered by the host), scores, turn timing, and optional board photos uploaded by the host.
- Group data. The names of the groups you create or join and their membership.
- Device and usage data. Basic technical information such as device type, app version, and diagnostic logs, used to keep the service running and to fix problems.
How we use it
- To run live sessions: timers, score reveals, and syncing between devices at the table.
- To keep your play history, group stats, and rivalry records over time.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service, including troubleshooting and abuse prevention.
- To manage your subscription and free-tier limits.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.
Aggregated, de-identified statistics
We may display publicly (for example, on this website) and share with partners (such as game publishers) statistics that are de-identified and aggregated — for example: the number of sessions live right now, which games are being played, play counts, session lengths, and score distributions. Except for information you choose to publish through Public plays (below), this aggregate data never includes names, email addresses, group names, or any information that identifies an individual person or a specific group or table.
Public plays (optional)
Public plays is off by default. If you turn it on in the app (Settings → Public plays), we publish on this website — on a public profile page for you, in the public recent-plays feed, and in the public live listing:
- Your display name and avatar.
- Your past and future completed plays: the game, the date, and whether you won, plus your overall win/loss record.
- When you are playing in a live session: that you are playing, the game, and when the session started.
Removing a play from your history inside the app also removes your name from that play's public listings.
Other people at your tables are not identified unless they have separately turned on Public plays themselves; they appear as anonymous players.
You can turn Public plays off at any time, which immediately removes your profile page and your name from these listings. Be aware that anything published while it was on was visible to anyone on the internet, and search engines or third parties may have copied or cached it — we cannot retract copies held by others.
Third parties
- Apple and Google. Subscriptions are purchased through the App Store or Google Play. Apple/Google process the payment; we receive purchase receipts to verify your subscription, not your payment details.
- BoardGameGeek (BGG). If you choose to connect your BGG account, we use the credentials you provide to post plays, and read collection and rating data, on your behalf. We only contact BGG when you use those features, and you can disconnect at any time in the app.
- Infrastructure providers. We use hosting and content-delivery providers to run the service; they process data only on our behalf.
Data retention
We keep your account and game history for as long as your account exists, so your long-term stats work. Diagnostic logs are kept only for a short operational window. When your account is deleted, your personal data is removed as described below.
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (Settings → Delete account). Deletion removes your account, email address, and personal data from our systems. Anonymous aggregate statistics that no longer identify you may be retained.
Your choices
- Edit or remove your display name and profile details in the app.
- Disconnect the BoardGameGeek integration at any time.
- Delete your account in-app, or contact us for help.
Children
BG Live is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and note the new date above.
